Tech class presentation notes:

Jessica and Krista:

  • Very aesthetic presentation
  • Issues with the video
  • I feel like the videos could have been made a bit larger for viewers to see better
  • I like that they included the pros and cons of each app
  • LOVE that they included curricular connections I didn’t even think of including that! Super creative.
  • Apps talked about: (seek, Inaturalist, Night Sky, measure) also included other apps in the other resources section
  • Best educator practices I think was a very important section to include

 Ethan, Melissa, Andrea, Amanda

Minecraft (Ethan):

  • Interactive immersive lessons
  • You can download custom worlds that educators have made to teach certain lessons
  • A very adaptive game for students who have diverse needs
  • Maybe editing to video a bit to cut out the mispronunciation
  • Has collaboration potential for students to collab
  • Is available on many devices however take into consideration that not all students have access to such technology
  • Coding courses within the game (puzzles, tasks to solve things)

Math Prodigy, Math Playground, ABC Ya! (Amanda):

  • K-8, have an English version for reading comprehension
  • Read out loud button for the question
  • Penguin Jump (math playground)
  • Pac man style game for addition (ABC Ya)
  • Chesskid.com

Epic Books!, IXL, Prodigy, ABC Mouse (Melissa):

  • Reading eggs – English lessons that are set up for her, library access in the app, SD5 has a subscription, progress can be tracked by teacher and parent, games were a bit long, Custom avatar and journal
  • ABC Mouse – not specific to one subject on the learning path part in the app, game option you can pick just reading and writing options, ads, Paid site
  • ABC Ya – all about me game, pop-up ads
  • Prodigy – complete tasks give English questions to further learning

PBS Kids, Adapted Mind, IXL, (Andrea):

  • Online games for diverse learners
  • Adapted Mind – math science reading and social studies. Very bright and loud so be aware of children that have sensory issues, you cant change settings to accommodate student
  • IXL – self-studying or students that need extra tutoring, different subjects and grade points, games, and videos (very basic), can gear towards provincial curriculum,
  • RoomRecess.com is very basic, games are sorted by certain skills/subjects not grades, does not track learning, themed games (horses soccer, etc.), games come with worksheets that you can print, there is no time frame to reduce pressure, and free
